ITS ALIVE!

IT BOOTS AND SAVES, and runs windows...64 bits if you wonder....

The IT guy (computer scientist by trade) installed a taken from a pile new hard drive, is it an SSD? I don’t know, but I can’t listen to it... so thats good.

Kinja'd!!!

So yeah, I joined the PC master race with a four year old mac!

My brother once said that the best Windows laptop he ever owned was a MacBook Pro.

I used to have a windows partition on my wife’s macbook pro so that I could tune my WRX using an Openport. Damn, I need another WRX.

He was probably right, apple hardware tends to be good (if I have bad luck with the brand is another discussion entirely)

I’ve got windows 10 running flawlessly on my 2011 mbp thanks to upgraded ram and a 500 gb SSD that makes it usable, even to the point of running h1z1, access, visio, etc.

Though I’ve moved my gaming to a much better equipped custom built PC, the windows partition in my mbp still outperforms any new sub $500 windows laptop. Most budget laptops focus on having too many hardware features like touch screens, fingerprint scanners, etc. when they could be much better with a SSD, 8 GB of RAM and a better i5.

my mac has 16ram, i7, and independent graphics.

Hmmm... every time I said “independent graphics” to any of the apple staff at the store they had a small orgasm...

Anyway....

I’m trying to install Autodesk Inventor but I get bluescreened.... despite having ample storage for it...

Hmm... have you verified the windows boot is utilizing the graphics card? Also a good idea to watch your core temps (and the graphics cores too) as my first couple attempts were fairly unstable as they were running really hot (like 75* C at idle hot). It took a true BIOS install rather than an EFI boot to utilize both sticks of RAM and get the idle temp down to about 50* C, though OS X still runs a bit cooler.

With my PC build, I’m waiting for RAM prices to come back down once the crypto boom busts before I go up to 32 or 64. In the mean time I’ll install a HDD and some quieter cooling (might go liquid cooled if I trust myself). The GTX 1060 and i7 7700 make it more than capable for my current needs.

Hmm, I think that my computer runs the nvidia card by default (god, German, what did you do to this computer?)

Temps is probably right... perhaps I should leave it in a cool place and without any heavy tasks for a while before confirming the reboot.

A BIOS instal is probably beyond my skill level...

I think I have the newest drivers for the card, and it only shows the card (no mention of the intel integrated graphics. )

Enough people have done them in the past that there is a good amount of knowledge out there on forums for each version of the mbp. A bios install is pretty easy as long as you check your drives (so you don’t overwrite OSX) beforehand and are comfortable enough pasting code into the command line to get around some of the bootcamp settings. A BIOS install is generally similar to an EFI boot, but instead of loading from a thumb drive you have to burn a DVD install disc. Worst case scenario you just have to reformat the drive from a backup for OS X. Check the RAM usage by percent on a single program (chrome is easiest as it chews up RAM and allows for easier math) and then check the GB of RAM usage on the same program to see if it is the percent of ~16GB or something lower. EFI boots can cause some serious driver issues, my initial boot had realtek sound driver issues that were cleaned up with a BIOS install.

I opened the program without restarting the computer and it ran without a hiccup...

now I need to close it and see if when I restart the computer it works....
